Nomen
A native macOS app that analyzes folders of documents and renames files logically based on their content.
Origin
Nomen was created for personal document organization: phone scans, old folders, and other unsorted files should not require opening and renaming every document manually. The goal was to simplify this repetitive cleanup process with local AI.
Requirements
Analyze many documents in a folder, recognize content and dates, and generate consistent file names – entirely locally and with privacy in mind.
Implementation
Nomen extracts text from PDF, RTF, DOCX, and plain text, uses Vision OCR for scans, and processes content locally with Apple Foundation Models or optional llama.swift.
Project scope
Folder selection, automatic content and date recognition, configurable naming patterns, batch renaming, and undo.
