The path down to Widderfeld (2075 m) leads over meadows of flowers and then as a ridge hike over a saddle. If you follow the path further, it leads over a swampy plateau to the Feldalp.

Ibex are frequent in the area around Augstmatthorn due to the proximity to the prohibited hunting area. They can be observed at close range.
