The Emmental Alps lie in the heart of Switzerland. The highest peak in this mountain group is the Brienzer Rothorn (2350 m) with the famous Brienzer Grat.

The Tomlishorn (2128 m) forms the highest peak of the Pilatus massif in the Emmental Alps.
The Pilatus rises not far from Lucerne. Its mountain range is one of the best viewpoints in Switzerland.

The path down to Widderfeld (2075 m) leads over meadows of flowers and then as a ridge hike over a saddle. If you follow the path further, it leads over a swampy plateau to the Feldalp.
Ibex are frequent in the area around Augstmatthorn due to the proximity to the prohibited hunting area. They can be observed at close range.
